Well no one saw this coming I think it is fair to say.

Oguchi Oneywu has signed for Milan for a free transfer from Standard Liege.

While it is hard to know what to expect from the signing of the ‘Gooch’ as he is known, based on what we do know I think we should not expect too much.

For sure Oneywu is a more than competent defender with a strong physical presence, however in light of the players and staff members that we have lost this European summer it hardly inspires much of the lost confidence heading into the coming season.

It is however a relief in that Milan have finally bought some one. The fact that it is for a free transfer though, is rather incredulous given the money Milan received from the sale of Kaka.

I hope however that the ‘Gooch’ is a success as all us Milan fans do. We need new blood, new defenders and we have no money so, sure, signing him on a free transfer is altogether a good move by the Milan board.
