Andrea Pirlo has been pivotal to Milan’s successes in the past decade. He is an unbelievable talent who occupies a position on the field unique in football. Playing as a deep lying playmaker Pirlo in his time at Milan he has established himself as one of the greatest players of the modern era.
He has won everything with Milan, two Champions League titles, a Scudetti, the World Club Cup and the European Super Cup picking up along the way the World Cup with the Azzurri.
But, Pirlo is now 29 years old and he only has a good two or maybe three seasons left in him. Carlo Ancelotti, the coach that made the bold move to push Pirlo back down the park that paid off extraordinarily well, has left and with Leonardo new ideas are the order of the day. In addition, Milan’s well-documented financial difficulties could well benefit from the sale of Pirlo who in todays market will still demand a hefty fee.
I would, like all Milan fans, be sad to see him leave. Along with Kaka, Maldini and Ancelotti, if Pirlo left I would almost not recognise my own team. But, Milan are in a rebuilding phase and need money. If by selling Pirlo Milan could finance the purchase of full back and Hernanes then I am all for it.
Either way, I do not think we can lose. If Pirlo goes, new and younger talent will arrive hopefully. If he stays, then lets hope we see the best of Pirlo in the next two, three years before age really starts to take its toll.
If Pirlo does leave, then I hope it is for Spain and not England. He does not suit English football and even with Carletto on the sidelines helping him out I just do not believe that he will cut it with his particular style.
