'The Hunter' signs for Milan

Finally, Milan have signed a striker after a long and arduous search. Luis Fabiano, Edin Dzeko, David Trezeguet are among the few names that had been mentioned but in the end it was the Dutchman Klaas-Jan Huntelaar from Real Madrid that has signed for the Rossoneri.

Huntelaar has signed a four year contract in a deal that is said to be worth about 15 million euros. The striker arrives from Real Madrid where he spent just one season scoring eight goals in twenty matches.

After having only spent one season in a ‘big’ league, it remains to be seen whether Huntelaar will be a success given rigours that the Italian league will present him. But at 25 his best still may be yet to come. Given Real Madrid’s disastrous campaign last season it is understandable why perhaps we did not see the best of him.

One thing is for sure and that is, apart from his one season in Spain, Huntelaar’s goal scoring record is phenomenal. ‘The Hunter’, as he is known, scored an amazing 76 goals for Ajax in just 92 appearances whilst at Heerenveen, the club he played for before moving to the Dutch capital, his goal scoring record was equally impressive as he netted 33 goals in just 42 appearances. On the international stage, the Dutchman has showed his attacking prowess also scoring 13 goals in 23 appearances for the Oranje.

Huntelaar is a natural striker in the mould of a young David Trezeguet. Given the service, Huntelaar will thrive. With Pirlo and Ronaldinho in the Milan line up he should not be short of service so lets hope he thrives.

I believe that Huntelaar is a better signing than Luis Fabiano. Being younger, Milan may get more for their money than they perhaps would with the Brazilian Fabiano. For this reason, the Dutchman also represents a better option than Trezeguet whilst compared to Dzeko, it is Huntelaar who has the better goal scoring record.

So by all accounts, I think this is a great signing for Milan and at 15 million euros he represents a good deal. At 25 his best, arguably, is yet to come. In Milan he will be given the time to prove himself and considering his phenomenal goalscoring record, there is no reason why he will not be a hit in Milan.

So things are looking up this week for Milan, and as for us fans, the wait is finally over. The club still has work to do however, as Milan still need reinforcements in other areas of the pitch.

Most importantly, Milan need a full back. De Silvestri of Lazio is being touted as a potential arrival in Milan. The Italian is young, fast and is a promising talent. Exactly what Milan needs.

A goalkeeper should also be considered before the close of the transfer campaign whilst I still believe that the midfield needs more quality. Fabregas would be, well, a ‘fab’-ulous signing but Hernanes would be great too.

For now, lets just sigh in relief as we have finally got a striker in the form of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
