In the last 24 hours Milan had their last opportunity to make any new signings as the transfer window closed. Rather beguilingly the board at Milan decided not to sign any new players. This is a decision that I find baffling. Do they not see how clear and evident it is that Milan need new players and desperately?
Well it does not seem so. Berlusconi, we know, is not keen to hand out his own money for political reasons. But this is not quite good enough. As the chairman of any organisation he should be held accountable for the performance of the club as a whole. As it stands I fail to see how Milan’s current plight is achieving anything positive for the club.
We all know what areas of the pitch Milan desperately need strengthening. Yet the board seem content with the team we have. This is absurd. Berlusconi is so disillusioned it is simply not funny.
He has just proclaimed his faith in Ronaldinho again saying, “As for Ronaldinho, he can make this team win.” Yes, I am thinking exactly the same thing Silvio after watching Ronaldinho against Inter.
There has been outrage from Milan fans across the media and understandably so. However, I would not go so far as to say that Milan will be fighting relegation. I do believe that the team still have a good chance to qualify for the champions league again next season. Qualifying again for the Champions League wil represent a good result for this current crop of players. Anything more and it wil be a bonus. Anything less and it will be a disaster.
So no new signings, at least untill January. After losing four nil to Inter it is pretty hard to see how things can get any worse. With Livorno Milan’s next opponents surely things will get better.
