No ‘teething’ problem and no surprise

What could have been!

What could have been!

This week Cissokho has come out and revealed  the real reason why he was not signed. Coming as no surprise, it was not  problems with his teeth that failed his transfer to Milan but rather it was over price.

I was rather perturbed by the Aly Cissokho affair that occurred during off-season and for two reasons. One, Milan were in desperate need of some young and quality talent especially in the full back department. Two, it was highly suspicious the circumstances in which the transfer failed.

To extend on my first reason, Aly Cissokho, a young player with an abundance of quality and one of great potential, was exactly what Milan needed and still do. The signing was mentioned shortly after the sale of Kaka and I, like most Milan fans, thought that this signing would be the first in a string of new signings as the club entered a new era with new talent. Unfortunately this was not to be the case. Cissokho was not signed and the club did not sign a string of new talent.

Now at Lyon, Cissokho has started the season in great form and watching him dominate the left flank against the Viola, as a Milan fan I could only ponder what might have been. With Janku and Zambrotta taking up the duty of left back for Milan so far this season, it is quite clear that Milan still need a left full back. For this reason, I was perturbed by Galliani’s failure to sign him and furthermore by his lack of making amends by signing another full back instead.

But more than the fact that Milan desperately needed a young full back like Cissokho was the way that the failed deal transpired. First, it was reported that the player was signed. Then and rather absurdly, the transfer was called off due to the player failing the medical due to problems with his teeth. Now, it seems that there never was anything wrong with his teeth, a point that I alluded to during the event. This was ever so obvious when in order to make the transfer possible again, Galliani asked Porto for the price to be lowered. If the player had a problem with his teeth, then why would it be okay to sign him at a younger price. If a problem with his teeth was sufficient to fail the medical then it would seem that at any price the player would not pass the medical if he had such a problem. So there would be no point in signing him.

It was simply was not the case. With Aly Cissokho coming out this week to reveal the truth it is no doubt that it was purely for financial reasons that Cissokho was not signed. Yet, we fans were told that it was due to the failed medical. Now this is really perturbs me and I do not think I am overreacting or am I? Here we have one of the executives of our club lying to us and for this I really think that Galliani owes us, the fans, an apology. For after all, no club would be anything without its fans and for this reason the club should show a little more respect to its fans.

I am sure that you are already aware of my dislike of the way the current board have handled affairs in the last six months especially. If you are not then read ‘The Comedy of Milan’ and my off-season feature ‘AC Milan in real trouble’.

Galliani made a shambolic mess of Milan’s transfer campaign and only achieved in denting the reputation of our great club, whilst Berlusconi has long departed from reality. His lifestyle is completely unacceptable and he no longer serves in the interest of the club. Berlusconi’s commments, his intrusion of team affairs undermines the club and the only thing that Silvio can offer is money. However, he is not willing to dish out money to purchase new talent and for this reason I see no point for to him continue his role with the club.

There has been talk of Silvio selling the club and at this point I would be or for it. Unless Galliani and Silvio alter their behaviour, shut their mouths and get on with helping the club progress than they simply will only be a detriment to the clubs future. A new leader and board is perhaps what is needed to take our club back to the summit of football.

  1. I completely disagree on Berlusconi.

He still is, beyond any doubt, the most passionate fan of our team.

    So:

    SILVIO FOREVER !
