BECKHAM 2.0

Beckham scoring his first goal for Milan

Beckham scoring his first goal for Milan

This week it was confirmed by Galliani that Beckham will arrive in Milan in January for a second loan spell. For Milan this is great news. Like I said in my previous post, Rumours Leo and more of the same Beckham is a class act of a player, a true professional. For all his celebrity, for all his success, for all his limitless wealth and worldwide appeal, Beckham is still very much a man with his feet on the ground.

Last season Becks was sensational for Milan. He scored two goals, provided a number of assists and generally performed well. So much was not expected of a player who had never played before in Serie A and for the best part of the two preceding years was plying his trade in the rather modest MLS.

Another year on from his first spell and at the age of 34, perhaps Beckham will find it harder to again play at such a level. This may be the case, however, with 2010 approaching I am convinced that Beckham will have all the motivation required to again be a great asset to Milan on the field.

Becks will give some depth to a side lacking depth and he will give quality to a side lacking quality. Though his play may be deemed one dimensional as he uses only one foot, what he can do with one foot is better than what most players can do with two. His accurate passing and pinpoint crosses will help link the Milan midfield to the attack whilst relieving the pressure of Ronaldinho and Pirlo as the creative forces in the team.

Perhaps with Beckham arriving Leo should continue with the 4-4-2 formation used against Atalanta. For sure Milan’s performance in that match was not great by any standards, but using this formation will allow Beckham to play in his natural position on the right of midfield.

In the unlikely case that Becks does not once again perform at such a level, his attitude and professionalism which is exemplary, will be a great asset to Milan off the field. For this current Milan side are lacking inspiration indeed, but with Beckham in the squad then perhaps a little more inspiration can be found. The timing may well be perfect also. Milan have struggled so far and it seems like it will be a long season for all, players and fans alike. With Beckham arriving at the halfway stage, maybe he can help instill some extra motivation and energy in the dressing room for the final and most important half of the season.

Looking forward to Beckham’s arrival in Milan for Becks 2.0, below is Beckham in one of his most impressive perforamances of last season.

Beckham would be good right about now

  1. We need to get Dzeko at some point. Hes incredible at the moment. But if Milan doesnt get him in the Jan window, then I think we could be better off keeping hunter, I’m not sure Pav is any different. It might be worth trying to see Becks finding these strikers.
