Who A.C. Milan Should Buy This Summer

It would be but a dream to see Fabregas at Milan.

It would be but a dream to see Fabregas at Milan.

There is much uncertainty surrounding Milan at present.

Fans have begun to express their discontent and there are rumours that owner Silvio Berlusconi might sell the club. Also, the choice of coach for next year is still not yet confirmed. Massimiliano Allegri is the likely candidate as of now.

However, the one main issue that needs resolving more than anything else is the squad. As has been the case for a number of seasons now, the current Milan squad is in desperate need of new arrivals. Too many old and washed up players still fill the Milan team sheets.

Next season, this has to change.

Unfortunately, it does seem unlikely that Milan will make serious inroads into curtailing this issue, despite the recent promise by Berlusconi that at least one new star will arrive this summer. We have heard this before.

But for moment let us ponder, albeit unrealistic it is at times, just who Milan should and maybe could buy this summer. Starting from the back and making our way to the attack, ideal signings are discussed alongside more realistic ones.

Goalkeeper

Dida is the past. Milan, in more ways than one, need to look to the future. They could start by bringing back Marco Storari who has impressed in his loan spell at Sampdoria.

Storari is a quality goalkeeper, an affordable solution, and a highly possible one too.

Defence

When Nesta is fit and playing alongside Thiago Silva, Milan has one of the best centre half pairings in Europe. However, Nesta is prone to injury, and for this reason Milan needs to acquire a strong centre half that is capable of filling in for the Italian. This is no easy task, and therefore the likes of Onyewu and Bonera will not do.

Nicolas Otamendi is the ideal solution. Young, strong and full of promise, Otamendi is the kind of player that Milan should by buying. He has often been dubbed the “new Samuel” in reference to Walter Samuel of Inter. Otamendi definitely has all the attributes to fulfil this billing.

Fullback

Luca Antonini has been a revelation for Milan this season. However, Gianluca Zambrotta has only shown that his days are well past him. Therefore, at least one quality full back has to arrive in the summer.

Realistic options include Marco Motta, Lorenzo De Silvestri and Mattia Cassani . However, the number one preference would be Branislav Ivanovic of Chelsea. The young Serbian is an absolute quality defender and also knows how to get forward. With Bosingwa the number one choice at Chelsea, signing Ivanovic could be possible, however, it is unlikely.

Ideally, Milan should sign a second full back. Jankulovski, Abate and Favalli are not suitable backups for a club intending to win major honours. Fabio Aurelio would be a wise signing. The Brazilian’s contract at Liverpool ends this summer, meaning Milan could pick him up for free making this signing highly realistic.

Midfield

Massimo Ambrosini and Gennaro Gattuso no longer are good enough to be Milan’s first-choice defensive midfielders. Mathieu Flamini does not have the quality. Therefore, at least one strong defensive midfielder is required.

One solution would be Mahamadou Diarra of Real Madrid. However, the number one choice would be Yaya Toure of Barcelona. With the emergence of Busquets at the Nou Camp, signing Yaya Toure is not unrealistic. Furthermore, he is one of the best defensive midfielders in the game and his presence in the Milan midfield would bring some much needed steel.

Ideally, however, Milan needs another midfielder. One who is both a ball player and ball-getter. Undoubtedly, the best player Milan could acquire for this role would be Cesc Fabregas . The player has been linked to Milan in the past, however, it is very unlikely that Fabregas will be brought in with reports indicating he is to sign for Barcelona next season.

More likely candidates would be Gaetano D’Agostino and Luca Cigarini . The club would do well to sign one of these players in any event.

Forwards

If Milan is serious about winning silverware, then they certainly need to replace Marco Borriello as the lead striker. He is not good enough, is somewhat overrated, and it is beyond belief that Lippi is taking him to the World Cup. Either Borriello goes or Huntelaar this summer.

The number one choice of striker to lead the Milan attack is of course Fernando Torres . Arguably the best striker in the world, Torres is nothing short of world class. He will guarantee goals given the support which Ronaldinho can provide.

Such a transfer is unlikely. This being the case, Edin Dzeko is still a very favourable option. What is more, the Bosnian has top the goal scoring charts in the Bundesliga and in all has scored 28 goals this season. This proves that the Bosnian’s break out season last season was no fluke. He is quality.

let’s be realistic. fabregas and torres are just dreams. My choices, among yours, are: motta-diarra-dezko. and what about anderson, no more fergy’s favourite? ans benzema? as for ottamendi, we have already bought yepes which is, trust me, very good. as for the creative midfielder just shop around south america. an option could be ben-arfa. I like also downing. and hernanes? allegri is the right choice. with him matri back along with lopez and biondini?and if we buy ottamendi we should try the defense at 3…
We will be great again next year, I AM SURE !

Fabregas and Torres are dreams. But I did say that at times my recommendations were going to be realistic.

Benzema could also be an option, I would be happy with either him or Dzeko, though I would slightly prefer Dzeko.

I have not seen enough of Yepes. Since we have already signed him, I am sure we will not be buying anyone else. But Otamendi is young and talented and it is these kinds of players we need more than veterans like Yepes.

Hernanes is also an option. Though I think D’Agostino would be just as good a signing.

Lets hope that we actually do make some significant signings to ensure that we are great next year. As for Allegri, well I would have preferred Tassotti but maybe he does not want the job.

Whats the point! Berlusconi made it clear that he wont splash any money for big transfers. This is pretty evident because the board will be selecting Allegri who worked wonders with a mediocre caligari team playing attacking football, Uncle and Berlusconi want Allegri because they want Allegri to stir the same old team with very few reinforcements to a top three finish. I dream for Hernanes, Kraisc and Dzeko but that’s very unlikely to happen. All Milan fans can only be fret by watching Inter winning everything. As for now the difference between Inter and Milan is like city rivalries of Barcelona and Espanyol or Chelsea and West ham. Its very painful to watch Milan reducing to mediocrity if not below that, Its like the man who created Milan has kick started its demise. We will be keep on hearing Uncle saying ” Milan is the most successful club in the world.

I tend to be more optimistic. With Inter’s treble I feel the board may be a little more motivated to get things in order with a couple of significant signings this summer.

If this does not happen, the board risks losing the complete faith of the club’s fans thus putting the future of the club into much doubt.

Changes simply have to be made this summer, end of story.

Milan has less money to spend. I dont know how they will buy a central defender, full back and a midfielder with 30 million fund. I guess youth squad members will be promoted. But if they buy Otamendi, krasic or Hernanes and dzeko milan fans will be happy.

Lets hope that Silvio sells part of the club, like it is rumoured. If he does the club might be in for a 180 million euro windfall. This could change things.

Also, did you hear Berlusconi’s latest claim that he would have won the Scudetto if he had coached Milan. This guy is seriously losing the plot.

Yep! I was shocked to hear that claims of Berlusconi. He is downplaying the some of the good work of leonardo.

Honestly Leonardo made some crucial mistakes thats why Berlusconi is mad.

Even I am not happy with the things leonardo did, like

    1. Relaying too much on Favali

    2. Never tried to use young talented defenders of the youth squad like Albertazzi

    3. Adiyah is a mystery, how come a star player of the FIFA 21 never played a single game. Adyiah was playing for the youth squad.

4.At the mid of early 2010 when we were so close to the top of the table, our attacking trident were underperforming, why leonardo didnt use Verdi, Zignoi or Adiyah.

    5. Perhaps this is the biggest crime of leonardo. As everybody know defense was so weak, why leonardo opted for Mancini instead of buying a defender. This costed heavily against Man Utd.

Anyway as for a novice coach he did a pretty good job.

    Latest:

AC Milan lost to MLS minnows DC United 2-3. Oddo scored twice (I cant believe he is still around after costing us the scudetto).

This clearly gives the indication how will this team can perform in the 2010/2011 season if there is no rebuilding of squad. Yes demise of our Milan is imminent.

Really I am serious if the team is not rebuilt then Milan fans should stop supporting the board.

Sure, Leo’s biggest mistake was his failure to utilise youth players more, especially when so many of the older players were playing so poorly.

However, Leo did a good job overall. Never did I expect Milan to be competing for the Scudetto yet, at one point, they were very much contenders.

I am not sure if Leo wanted Mancini, I think it was more Galliani’s doing.

I think many Milan fans have already stopped supporting the board, as the last game against Juve showed.

If changes are not made this off season, then yes, the fans should become more active in their opposition to how the board is dealing with the club.

Because, unless changes are made this off season, Milan will be in for a very hard and long season next year. I am nervous just thinking about it.

You say Otamendi, I say Kjaer, both good in their own ways. Torres is a pipe dream, Dzeko is more realistic I would say. Fabri? hmm… but I would like someone like Pastore, if we are to have Pirlo as our chief conductor. DMs need serious thought. Can Gattuso become Gattuso? can Ambro put in the kind of performance day in day out that makes him deserve the captains armband? I would like one of the DM’s to be more box to box so I would go for Hernanez(though ofcourse I dont know if he is as good as hyped). If you are willing to have a pipe dream about Fabri then I would also like to dream about Gerrard or Kaka back.

Torres and Cesc are pipe dreams. But allow me to have my moment of Championship Manager fantasy.

I like Kjaer too. With his experience in Serie A, he may be a good option too.

Dezko is still a possibility, I think. I really hope that he is one signing that we do make, if we make any at all this summer.

I have questions mark over Ambrosini and his right to remain captain. But who else, Pirlo? I would choose Nesta personally, though he is injured all the time.

Gattuso can not become Gattuso any more. He is done. Lets move on.

Could not agree more. We need to mids. One a DM and one a box-to-box. Fabri and Yaya would fit the bill but indeed they are pipe dreams.

Gaetano D’Agostino could be the box to box player we need, and I think Diarra could be an option too.

Is it true that Dzeko in talk with Manchester city?. Milan fans will never digest if Dzeko signs for any other club. I guess this world cup will be an arena to scout more talents.

I also heard that Milan plan to sign Eder, brazilian striker who plays for Empoli. Is he good enough?

PEOPLE I MEAN REALLY WE MUST SIGN ANDREA CONSIGLI HE’S OUT OF CONTRACT 23 YEARS OLD WE SHOULD SELL STORARI TO JUVE OR TRADE HIM FOR MANINGER.
AND WE WOULD HAVE 3 GOOD KEEPERS:
    1.CONSIGLI 12. ABBIATI .31. MANINGER

Sell Storari? I thought he did exceptionally well for us last term. In fact, I thought he was one of our best players in the first part of the season.

Of course, I agree with you on Dzeko. We simply have to buy him this summer.

Giovinco is an interesting idea and one that I am open too. Though I have to say that I am not as excited about Giovinco as others are. Nonetheless, he does have some talent and is does have youth, two qualities Milan needs in abundance. He is also set to leave juve so it is a realistic option as well.

Drenthe? I do not rate him as a defensive player but I would prefer to see him play in the attacking third. He could perhaps be a good option to play right sided attacker.

I checked out Van Der Wiel and I have to say I absolutely agree with you. He looks to be a sensational talent and would be a great addition.

Eder has had a great season with Empoli in Serie B. He was the top goal scorer in the division and can play either as a striker or winger, which suits Milan to a tee. But, I do not think he is good enough to solve our problem. In Inzaghi and Borriello we still have two able strikers that will suit being back ups. What we need is a striker who is world class, or not far off. Dzeko is such a player.

my ideal and “realistic” signing would be:
the goalkeeping department needs new blood with out a doubt, storari just doesnt fit the bill, my realistic signings would be, igor akinfeev from cska moscow he would definitely be the best choice to capture, but another could be rui patricio from sporting lisbon. those two would be a great catch for milan in terms of as a start to rebuilding the squad.

defence needs a major overhaul, its not the rock solid defence that it used to be, and milan desperately need that, so my choices would be mahamadou sakho from psg would be a great grab but im sure psg wont let him go too cheaply, but he is a realistic choice, i was hoping milan would get bruno alves from porto but zenit had other plans, micah richards could also be another choice, naldo from werder bremen, serdar tasci from stuttgart, also dirk marcellis from psv would be ideal too, i think taye taiwo would fit the bill as the new left back because he is a beast, but also royston drenthe is to think about as well as otamendi and ivanovic as you guys mentioned.

midfield needs to be changed too and first person i would go for is mahamadou diarra for the dm position, other mentions would be rafael van der vaart for the right price, maybe diego capel, ibrahim affelay from psv for am to partner along with dinho, anderson from man united, hernanes from sao paulo, marek hamsik, pjanic, and so many more, all of those mentioned are very realistic if the right amount of cash is put on the table.

and last but not least the attack attack or the fowards/strikers. boriello is just plain boring, in my opinion needs to go, i see fernando torres on the other comments, not gonna happen, the only way that will happen is if milan gets taken over by another owner who is a multi billionare like what man city has, and is willing to spend big big cash on a attractive and competetive squad, that would convince a fernando torres to come, with him the main guy to build around…. anyways! my first choice would be of course mr eden dzeko he would be a perfect grab for sure, he provides the goods no doubt but if that fails then you have a brazilian striker named welliton from spartak moscow who can provide goals aswell, he would be a nice grab for milan, another stiker who is a realistic possibility would be fernando llorente from athletic bilbao, he can provide goals too for milan, those are my top 3 strikers, other mentions could be nelson valdez, roque santa cruz, eren derdiyok from leverkusen for those who dont know, maybe adriano from flamengo, balloteli haha just kidding lol fabiano, falcao, hulk, andre ginac, dani guiza, even maybe djibril cisse from panathinaikos, all of those are possibilities for milan to seriously look at…except for balotelli lol
