No forwards in January but maybe something in midfield – Adriano Galliani

This week has seen some scary rumours emerge. First it was reported that the club had revived its interest in Juventus striker Amauri. Then Lazio’s new signing Dijbril Cisse was linked to the club before Carlos Tevez was mentioned as Milan target.

But, Adriano Galliani has brushed aside such rumours. Speaking to Sky Sport, he said, “we are going through a difficult moment due to preseason training and because we suffered many injuries.

“Balotelli is a friend, Tevez won’t join us and no forwards in January. But maybe something in midfield.”

On the club’s said targets, to start with Amauri and I have stressed this many times with little opposition – he is merda. Sure he had a good brief spell with Parma last season but with Juventus he has been an abject failure ever since his arrival in 2008.

Over the summer he rejected a move to Marseille and Trabzonspor in order to sit on the sidelines at the Turin club. I am sure he was aware, like the rest of us, that he was not part of new coach Antonio Conte’s plan.

You would think that a player in this position would prefer to move on to somewhere where he will be valued and actually get time on the field. Not Amauri. He would rather not play and continue to receive his generous weekly wages. It was to the ire of Juventus’ management and understandably so. The club is trying to rebuild and the Brazilian-Italian is not part of the project so they wanted to get him off the wage bill if not make some money selling him.

He is also 31-years-old and while this fits in well with the kind of player Milan like to buy, our team is already old enough. A player this age should only be signed if he is or at least used to be something special, like David Beckham for instance. Amauri is not special and never has been, he is just another journeyman of the game.

Dijbril Cisse is another player who has been around the block a few times. He is also another player whose age starts with a three. He also another player who never really set the world alight. Sure he has had a good start to his Lazio career, but form is temporary.

Lastly, Carlos Tevez. He is a great player, special even. But, he is trouble. He has caused huge problems at Manchester City after his refusal to enter the field during his team’s match with Bayern Munich in the Champions League. His continuing want to be near his family – who remain in Argentina – mean that unless he is playing a short distance from them he will continue to be unsettled, no matter if he is made captain or not.

Luciano Moggi may be disliked by many, but, often he gets things right. Like his prediction last September that Milan would win the Scudetto after landing Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his belief that Inter will probably not win another Serie A title unless another Calciopoli comes around.

Writing in his Tuttomercatoweb column, Moggi labelled Tevez a “dressing room breaker” and refering to Juventus, said that if the club bought him in January “it would be the biggest disaster ever that could hit Juventus who are in the process of rebuilding.”

He is probably not too far off the truth. Tevez does cause damage to the harmony of the dressing room which in a team sport like football is a real concern.

He also added, “The quality of the squad is not enough to challenge AC Milan, Inter and Napoli for the title.”

Comforting words for us Milanisti, let’s hope he is spot on with this one.

Meanwhile, great idea Galliani regarding beefing up the midfield. Perhaps you could go for that mysterious Mr. X who you had us talking about all summer.
