Milan are in a tussle with Liverpool for the much heralded Danish starlet, Christian Eriksen.
The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the finest young talents in Europe today and has already gained international recognition with his national team Denmark who he has made 19 appearances for.
Last week evidenced a coming-of-age performance by the Ajax playmaker as he starred for his national side in their 2-1 defeat of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal to claim top spot in Group H and automatic qualification for Euro 2012.
Last season Eriksen was named Young Player of the Year in the Eredivisie in addition to claiming Ajax’s Talent of the Year award.
Legendary figure Johan Cruyff, who handed him the award, said, “He’s a player I really like with all my heart.”
“He is a typical product of the Danish school. You can compare him with Brian and Michael Laudrup. Only time will tell if Eriksen can reach the same level as them.”
With the dearth of truly world class attacking midfielders in the side – proven by Kevin Prince Boateng’s often presence as the team’s trequartista – the young Dane would be the perfect signing for Milan. He also has two attributes that are still in high demand at the club; youth and pace.
Currently valued at €7.9 million but with the competition for his signature intense buying him might require twice this figure which could be a problem for Milan.
It has been reported that Adriano Galliani might make a move for him in January. If this is true and Uncle Fester does convince the starlet to join the club then all will be forgiven about the Mr. X fallacy we were fed all summer.
Here is a sneak peak at Eriksen.
