Milan’s low Serie A position a motivation to break Lecce taboo – Max Allegri

Milan coach Max Allegri feels his team’s lowly 13th position in the Serie A standings will provide added motivation for his players to ‘get over’ their Lecce taboo.

The champions have a dismal record against Lecce as I explain in my preview for the match. Click here to read.

It has been almost ten years since the Rossoneri won at Lecce, an incredible record given that Lecce have only beaten Milan twice since 1997.

“It’ll be a tough away game, it’s been ten years since the last time we won at Lecce so we have to try and get over this taboo,” Allegri told a press conference.

“We’ll be up against a well-organized team with quality players who’ll cause us problems. It’s an important game for us at the moment because we have to climb up the table and we can’t afford any more slip ups. Right now we need to pick up points away from home.

“Tomorrow we’ll have to aware of the importance of the game and to respect our adversary because even when they’ve lost, they’ve always played well.”

“The way the table looks now actually helps you to prepare for the games because we all have loads of motivation to get to the break in a better position than the one we’re in. We have to get to 6 November near the top of the table and fight to stay there until the end of the league campaign.”
